The suburb, not the postcode

Gladstone Central accommodation
on the street itself.

Gladstone Central is one suburb, 3.1 square kilometres, built along one main street. We are at number 167.

Gladstone Central is the suburb that holds the city's business district, and Goondoon Street is the spine that runs through it. Almost everything a visitor needs — the library, the gallery, the council, a show, the shops — sits on that one street.

Our address is 167 Goondoon Street, Gladstone Central. Not a suburb over, not out by the highway with a central-sounding name. On the street, in the suburb, at a number you can count to.

Walk up the numbers

One street, in order.

Goondoon Street climbs a low hill, peaking at Roseberry Street. Here is what you pass on the way up — by street number, which is the only directions anyone here actually gives.

39
Gladstone City Library

Air-conditioned, free WiFi and a quiet table — the standing recommendation for anyone who needs to work a couple of hours away from the room.

56
Gladstone Entertainment Centre

Touring productions, conferences and community events in a 674-seat auditorium. About ten minutes on foot from us — book a show, walk there, walk back.

101
Gladstone Regional Council

The council offices. Worth knowing if your trip involves a permit, a planning meeting or a development application — it is a walk, not a drive.

144
Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum

Rotating exhibitions of fine art, photography and local history, free entry for most shows. Twenty-three doors from us, which is a five-minute stroll.

The boundaries, for the record

Small enough to cross on foot.

Gladstone Central covers about 3.1 square kilometres. Auckland Inlet closes it off to the north, Auckland Creek and Side Street to the west, the railway line to the east, and Scenery and Tank Streets to the south. At the 2021 census, 1,550 people lived inside those lines.

That is a genuinely small centre, and it is the reason the walking works. It is also why the street numbers do the job an address usually needs a map for.

Straight answer

Central is not right for every trip.

Gladstone spreads a long way, and where you sleep changes the trip. This is how we would actually advise it, including the times we are the wrong answer.

Stay in Gladstone Central if…

You are here for work, an appointment, a show at the Entertainment Centre, a night before an early flight, or a one-night stop off the highway. You park once and everything else is on foot. This is most people, most of the time.

Stay south, at the beach, if…

Sand is the entire point and you want it before breakfast every day. Tannum Sands and Boyne Island are about twenty minutes south of us — we would rather tell you that than have you drive it twice a day.

A word on noise, since people ask

A working city centre is busy by day and quiet by mid-evening — Goondoon Street is not a nightlife strip. Guests score our location 7.8 out of 10 on Booking.com, our strongest mark. If you sleep lightly, ask for a room off the street frontage when you book and we will sort it.

167 Goondoon Street, Gladstone Central QLD 4680 · Rockhampton is about 108 km north-west, Brisbane about 513 km south.
